Quick Mantras For Anxiety

Mantras for anxiety help accept the fact that life is rarely a bed of roses. There are ups and downs in life. At some point in life, we all go through a bad phase. It could be at work or in the family. But bad times bring challenges and these challenges can lead to panic attacks, unwanted anxiety, etc.

Little by little, it takes a toll on the mental health of the individual. The right thing to do during such times is to get a hold of your senses and realign your mind to look at the positives. How does one do it? The simple answer to this question lies in mantras for anxiety

There are many ways to relax the mind when you are struggling with anxiety. Some people choose to exercise, others listen to music, or even prefer binge-watching on the internet. One can choose the mechanism that best works for them. However, mantras are simple yet extremely effective.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is an emotion. It stems from an individual’s concern about the outcome of a situation.

As we delve deeper into the subject, it is important to understand what is anxiety? In simple terms, anxiety is a deluge of emotions. Just that these emotions are characterized by feelings of tension and stress.

Research beautifully explains anxiety as an integral part of human emotions.  It could be triggered by anything like a bad day at work, the sudden arrival of a relative or a dear friend’s demise. When the mind is under stress, anxiety becomes its defense mechanism.

As a result of this, the individual becomes anxious. He or she starts to feel nervous. The anxious attitude leads the individual to worry about the future. The question about what will happen suddenly becomes very important. In fact, often it ends up being the only question that bothers the mind – morning, noon, and night.

Is It Good or Bad?

Anxiety is only normal. Therefore, mantras for anxiety are an easy remedy that can bail you out of such situations. For instance, if you have a job interview, you are likely to be nervous. You want to know what the results are, don’t you? In fact, this anticipation is what motivates us to do our best. In this case, the individual will want to read up and prepare for the interview.

This preparation will help in clearing the interview with flying colors and who knows even secure the job. Does this mean that anxiety is all good? In controlled amounts, the little butterflies in the stomach are actually good. They give you the energy to achieve more.

However, this type of anxiety does not last very long. It usually passes with the moment. For example, the anxiety about the job interview goes away when you manage to secure the job. This is a good sign. If the anxiety stays and you continue to be nervous about everything around, it will impact your mental health.

What is an Anxiety Disorder?

Interestingly, there is no particular diagnosis that a doctor would classify as anxiety disorder. When the anxiety that an individual experiences goes beyond the ordinary, it indicates the possibility of various disorders like obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and many more. Anxiety is merely a symptom that indicates the presence of possible mental health disorders. Anxiety often shows as excessive fear, worry, panic attacks, difficulty to breath or uneasiness. These symptoms usually point to underlying mental health disorder that should not be ignored.

Victims of anxiety related mental health disorders usually experience high stress or negative emotions, throughout the day. The overdose of negativity prevents them from leading a happy and fulfilling life. According to a research, women are likely to end up with anxiety disorders.

Types of Anxiety Disorder

Here is a look at five types of anxiety disorder, this is a broad level classification. Presence of anxiety is a strong reason to evaluate the mental health of the individual.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

If an individual gets worried without any reason or is provoked by the most unexpected reasons, it is an indication of generalized anxiety disorder. Chronic anxiety is another symptom of this condition.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

This condition is usually characterized by a series of repetitive behaviors like washing hands or cleaning the same place. This is usually done to stop the bad thoughts from occupying the mind. These actions become a ritual for the victim, they look at it as a means to get rid of the negative thoughts.

Panic disorder

In this case too, anxiety is a very common symptom. However, victims of panic disorder experience intense bouts of fear. Sometimes the fear is accompanied by physical symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, inability to breathe, etc.

At the onset, these episodes are brief but gradually they tend to become longer and more painful, if left untreated.

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Being a part of a terrifying event is never easy. Sometimes, when things don’t end well, they tend to leave a lasting impact on the mind. In cases, where the individual has experienced physical trauma, he or she is more likely to develop PTSD.

For instance, those who have served in the armed forces often experience PTSD even after retiring from active duties. Occasionally, this makes it difficult for them to be absorbed in the civil society.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Also known as social phobia, victims with this condition experience overwhelming anxiety and are over conscious about their day to day actions. For instance, they may be very self-conscious while eating or drinking in front of others.

What Are The Symptoms?

In the previous sections, we have explained the various types of anxiety disorders. However, these disorders do not appear suddenly. They are preceded by a series of symptoms. In this section, we list the symptoms in detail.

  1. Sudden panic or unnecessarily fearing a situation way too much
  2. A feeling of uneasiness like sudden lightheadedness
  3. Sleeping troubles. Due to fear and uneasiness, such individuals are often unable to sleep properly and this leads to other mental health problems as well.
  4. Sweaty palms. Yes! Those suffering from anxiety disorders often end up with excessive sweating in their palms. Sometimes they indulge in unnecessary nervous chatter, tap their feet, or experience mild shivering.
  5. Palpitations are also common in those experiencing any form of anxiety disorder. A rapid increase in heartbeats is also a common symptom.
  6. Nausea or an uneasy feeling in the stomach
  7. Some people also experience dizziness, it is the body’s mechanism to run away from the situation.

Anxiety is not all that bad. Sometimes the nervousness actually motivates you to do better. You just need to know how to channelize the energy

How Can Mantras Help?

Mantras can help tackle anxiety. They are a great coping mechanism because it diverts the mind to see the larger picture and tide over the situation. Even therapists swear by the effectiveness of mantras and how it can help in relaxing a calming mind.

The mantras when recited nudge the mind to focus and therefore help it to overcome the anxiety. When practiced regularly, mantras become a habit or a healthy addiction. They help in building confidence and strengthening the overall personality of the individual.
